カツ為に / For the sake of Winning...

勝つ為に、何を犠牲にできますか?時間?健康?お金?僕は美味しい料理の為に、お金を「犠牲」できます。。。
For the sake of winning, what are you willing to sacrifice? Is it time? Health? How about Money? As for myself, for the sake of delicious delicacies, I don't mind 'sacrificing' money...

やらやら、ここで二種のとんかつソースがあるけれど、
味がだいたい同じです。それ以外、
机の上に他の調味料も備えていました。
Over here they are providing 2 different types of 'Japanese
Tonkatsu(breaded pork cutlet)' sauce over here. The first would
be the sweet version and the second would be the spicy version.
And frankly speaking, I can't really tell the difference between
the 2 different types of sauce. Besides for that, they also have
several other types of seasoning to go with your meal.

「プレミア黒豚ロースかつ」
ここで全部のとんかつ定食が良い点がたくさんあると思います。
定食のご飯とキャベジととん汁が無料追加サービスがあります。
その上、とん汁に挽肉と野菜とキノコ、たくさんの材料があるし、
味がちょっと鹹いけど、厚いです。
'Premium Black Pork Tonkatsu'
I can easily point out several good points about the set meals
that they are serving over here. For a start, the rice, cabbages
and the 'Tonjiru'(Japanese soup which has a good load of meat
and vegetables) that comes with the set meal are refillable. Even
though it's slightly a bit salty but the tasty bowl of soup is
a big (+).

ここで白米の代わりに雑穀米を選べますよ。
以下はとんかつと雑穀米を一緒に食べた感想です。
(∩´∀`)∩スンバラスィ♪~~~~
You can choose to enjoy the set meal with a bowl of 'White' rice
or a bowl of 'multigrain' rice. Though it's probably my first
attempt to it but it isn't that bad too. It can really blend in
pretty amazingly.

美しいし、厚いし、甘いかつが大大満足です。外層部がサクサクして、
内層が噛みごたえます。(∩´∀`)∩バンザ──イ
This beautiful, thick and sweet lump of meat is satisfying.
Besides for the crispy outer layer, the chewy meat simply makes
things better and better. WoooHooooo.....

「牡蠣かつ」
牡蠣かつに付く「ターターソース」はとても甘いし、厚いです。
牡蠣かつを食べた時、このソースに少々浸漬した方が良いです。
そして、ソースとご飯を一緒に食べるがOKです。
'Oyster Katsu'
The 'Tartar' sauce that comes with this is pretty thick and
sweet. And I would strongly suggest that one shouldn't dip
and scoop out too much sauce in one go. However, besides for
the fact that it blends in with the 'Katsu' nicely, it blends
in with a bowl of rice nicely too. :)

「アーモンドプディング」
小豆の匂いが重いです・しかし、アーモンドの匂いがもっと重いです。
'Almond Pudding'
This comes with a nice 'Red Bean' fragrance, but the fragrance
of 'Almond' is even stronger.

串焼き天国? / The heaven of Skewered Food?

僕は和食が大好きです。だから、時々行ったことがないレストランを探して、選んで、食事を食べに行きました。だから、今日は。。。
I love to eat Japanese Food. Therefore, from time to time, I will keep a lookout for new Japanese restaurants to try, and once I have the time, I will give some of them a good try. Therefore as for today...

「塩だれキャベツ」
口に投げ入れた後、味はちょっと鹹くて、
くちゃくちゃの生キャベツがいいですね。
'Cabbage with Japanese salt dressing'
The cabbage slices over here are not only salty, they are pretty
crunchy too. Not too bad for a start.

「揚げ大蒜」
一コ一コ、飴みたいな形です。しかし、これは男の味です。
ちょっと苦くて、食べた時、すごくいい匂いが口に爆発します。
'Fried Garlic'
The size of these 'Fried Garlic' reminds me of sweets. And this is
the taste that guys would probably like. It's bitter and as you
started chewing away, there will be a nice fragrance bursting inside
your mouth.

ここのバイキングのメニューに色々な前菜以外、サイドディッシュ
には例えば、唐揚げ、茶碗蒸し、餃子、冷やっこがあります。
そして、ここで一番大人気な料理が。。。
Besides for the appetizers that are listed on their menu, there's also
an interesting list of side dishes too. For example, there's 'Karaage'
(Deep Fried Chicken), 'Chawanmushi', 'Gyoza', 'Hiyayakko'(Cold Tofu),
etc... And the specialities over here are...

「つくね」
つくねじゃなくて。。。
(しかし、丸々一本つくねが美味いです。外層のタレが甘いし、
中身はジューシーだし、噛みごたえのつくねが最高です。)
'Tsukune'
It's not the 'Tsukune' but the...
(However, the rounded-shape 'Tsukune' balls are pretty delicious.
Hidden inside a layer of sweet sauce, are the juicy and chewy meat,
which is worth a big (+).)

「串焼き」です。
ここで、「つくね」以外、様々な串焼きがあります。
野菜の選択があるし、海鮮の選択があるけど、一番多い
選択が野菜と肉のコンビです。その上、太い肉があり、
噛みごたえの串焼きが素晴らしいです。
'Skewered Food'
Besides for the 'Tsukune', they have also listed a big variety of
'Skewered Food'. There's vegetables choices, seafood choices and
most importantly, there's a big selections of 'Skewered Food', which
is made up of meaty and vegetables ingredients. On top of that, the
fatty chunks of chewy meat and pretty good too. :P

「ふわふわ鍋焼きうどん」
確かに、このうどんのふわふわの質感があるけれど、
ボリュームがちょっと多いです。串焼きが好きな人に対して、
この料理を注文しないほうがいいです。
'Fuwa Fuwa Nabeyaki Udon'
The creamy Fluffy texture of the 'Udon' noodles are a (+), but if
you are thinking of eating more 'Skewered Food', I would strongly
encourage you not to order this dish. Especially when the portion
of this dish is slightly a bit too big and filling.

たくさん料理を食べた後、デザートを注文しました。
甘いアイスクリームがいいと思います。
After giving so many dishes a good try, it's time to give the
'Desserts' a good try. And the sweet ice cream would be one of the
best choices listed on their menu.

そのレストランの名前は「やきとり家 すみれ」です。
そこは「Icon Village」というデパートの1階です。
The name of this restaurant would be 'Sumire Yakitori House'.
It's located on level 1 of 'Icon Village'.

和風珈琲店の普及化 / Uprising of Japanese Cafe...

十年前に、あの頃は一番人気の喫茶店は「香港風の喫茶店」かもしれません。あの時は、あちこちもご店があり、僕たちは頻々にあそこに料理を食べに行きました。十年前と比較して今は新しいトレンドがあります。
Ten years ago, dining at a 'Hong Kong cafe' is probably one of the trendiest thing to do during that period of time. 'Hong Kong cafe' back then was so so common. There's probably one in every neighborhood. Me and my friends used to hang out there too. :) However, that was a completely different situation as compared to now.

その前に晩御飯を食べていました。
だから、デザートのみご注文しました。
Since I had a heavy dinner earlier, I decided to go for the desserts only.

「ハニートースト抹茶と小倉」
これと「香港風の喫茶店」の厚いトーストの姿が大体同じです。
厚いトーストの上で、白玉とか、抹茶アイスとか、小豆とか、
和風の材料がいっぱいです。この上でハニーを注いでいました。
'Japanese Matcha & Ogura Honey Toast'
This is pretty similar to the thick toast that one can get at a 'Hong
Kong Cafe'. But over here, they have topped it with several types of
Japanese ingredients, etc. 'Shiratama'(Sweet rice flour dumpings),
green tea ice cream, red beans... The finishing touch would be the
portion of 'Honey' that goes on top of everything else.


僕はゆっくりにトーストを九個で分けました。
分けた後、材料が上から徐々に下まで流れました。
食べた時、甘い味以外、いい香りもあります。(・∀・)イイネ!!
トーストはふわふわの内層ときれいな焼き皮のコンビが最高です。
とにかく、トーストと材料のコンビが美味いです。
I started dividing it into 9 pieces. After dividing it into smaller
pieces, the ingredients started flowing down the 'holes' that goes
between the pieces of toast. As I dig into the toast, besides for
the nice and sweet sensation, it also comes with this nice fragrance,
which is a (+). Not only it's fluffy inside, the toast is also
covered in this thin layer of crust. And the chef has come up with a
pretty good dessert, which is a good mix between a Toast and the
Japanese ingredients.

天空の爆弾 / The Atomic Bomb from the sky

空にキラキラ星がいっぱいです。しかし、去年に空から「爆弾」を落としました。だから、「爆弾」を食べに行きました。。。
The sky is full of glittering stars. However, an 'Atomic Bomb' has dropped from the sky last year. Therefore, I decided to give it a good try.

僕の告白:普通の人に比べて、僕のお腹の容量がちょっと大きいです。
だから無料ご飯追加サービスのレストランが大好きです。
故に「爆弾」を食べるために、ここに行きました。
Here's my confession: My appetite is slightly bigger as compared
to a normal human being. Therefore I love restaurants that
provides unlimited portions of rice at no extra costs. Therefore
for the sake of the 'Atomic Bomb', I decided to give this place
a good try.

このレストランで、ご飯以外キャベツも無料追加を出来ますよ。イイネ♪d('∀'o)
無料ご飯とキャベツ追加。。。そうです。これはとんかつレストランです。
Over here, besides for the unlimited free flow of rice, you can
also get shredded cabbages for free too. But wait, unlimited free
flow of rice and shredded cabbages, isn't that one of the
characteristics of a Japanese 'Tonkatsu'(breaded, deep-fried pork
cutlet) restaurant.

それだから、机の上でキャベツの胡麻ソース、とんかつソース、藻塩があります。
That's probably why, they are providing the 'Sesame Sauce' for the
cabbages, 'Tonkatsu Sauce' and 'Seaweed Salt' on all the tables.

メニューに半分以上の定食は「かつ」があります。
これは「特選ロースかつ膳」です。
More than half of the items that are listed on the menu comes with
with a breaded deep fried cutlet.
The above shows 'Special Pork Loin Cutlet'.

とんかつの皮があまり厚くなくて、脂濃くないです。(・∀・)イイネ!
その上、甘い味が最高です。(・∀・)イイネ!!
一番大切のポイントはサクサクなとんかつです。(・∀・)イイネMax......
The skin of the cutlet isn't too thick and at the same time isn't
too oily. On top of that, the sweet taste of the loin meat is a (+).
But most importantly, the chewy and crunchy meat is unforgettable.

「ピヨピヨメンチカツ」
'Piyo Piyo Minced Meat Cutlet'

これは前に指す「爆弾」という料理です。
真ん中が煮玉子みたいな玉子、玉子の回りはメンチです。
切り開けてから、乳状の卵黄がゆっくり流れて、超美味いそうですね。
コンビが面白いですね。これと普通のとんかつが全然違います。
サクサクの質感よりシコシコの質感が多いですね。味が良いと思います。
しかし、分量が足りないです。もしもう一つの「爆弾」をくれたら。。。
This would be the 'Atomic Bomb' that I have mentioned earlier.
The core of this cutlet was made up of an fantastic boiled egg,
pretty much similar to those that you are getting from a bowl
of Japanese Ramen. And it's wrapped around a layer of minced
meat and topped with the breaded skin. And as you cut open
the cutlet, the creamy egg yolk started to flow out of the core,
which makes it look ultra yummy. The combinations looks pretty
interesting and it's pretty different from the average cutlet.
Not just being crunchy, there's also a chewy sensation and the
taste of it are pretty good. However, the portions are kinda
small and it will be great if they can throw in an extra cutlet
in the set meal.

「ジャンボロースかつ膳」
さすが「ジャンボロースかつ膳」です。
この分量は二人をご一緒に食べられます。

ここで豚かつ以外、鳥かつとか、海鮮かつとか、様々なかつも販売あります。
是非食べてみてください。゚+。゚(・∀・)゚。+゚イイ!!
'Jumbo Pork Loin Cutlet'
This is indeed a jumbo loin cutlet. The portion is big enough
to be shared by 2 individuals.

Besides for the 'Pork cutlets', they have also listed different
kinds of cutlets, e.g. 'Seafood cutlets', 'Chicken Cutlets', etc.
If you are hanging out nearby, do give the cutlets over here a
good try. :P

足りない。。。 / Not enough...

足りないものは何ですか?それは胃の容量です。実は数ヶ月前に友達と一緒にカラオケに行って、その後食事しに行きました。。。
What is not enough? That would be the size of our stomach. Actually, we had a Karaoke session a few months ago. After that, we decided to settle our dinner at a place nearby...

最後の選択はそちです。
そのバイキングレストランの名前は「Kiseki」です。
店所は「Orchard Central」というデパートの8階です。
We ended up choosing this.
The name of this 'Japanese Buffet Restaurant' would be 'Kiseki'.
It's located on level 8 of 'Orchard Central'.

そこで料理の選択が多いですね。
The wide selection of food over here is worth a very big (+).

たとえば「冷やし海鮮」とか、
For example, there's 'Chilled Seafood',

「揚げ物」とか、
'fried small bites',

「デザート」とか、「果物」とか、選択がいっぱいです。
「豆乳」もありますよ!!!
'Dessert', 'Fruits', etc...
They even have 'Soy Milk' over here too.

「飲み物」さえ
お茶とか、コーヒーとか、ジュースとか、
ソフトドリンクとか、選択が多いですね。
Even the 'beverages' selection over here can be pretty amazing.
There's 'Tea', 'Coffee', 'Juices', 'Soft Drinks', etc...

。。。しかし、机はちょっと小さいですね。
四人に対して、机の面積が全然足りないです。
でもね、おでんとか、餃子とか、鍋とか、様々な料理がありますよ。
とにかく、料理の味があまり素晴らしくないけど、種類が多いし、
大満足です。不足の点は僕たちの胃の容量です。
もし人類は二つの胃があったら、自由に換えられて、
それは良いと思います。
...However, the tables here are slightly a bit too small for the
4 of us. But 1 thing that I would like to compliment would be the
choices over here. There's 'Oden'(Boiled ingredients served in a
broth), 'Gyoza'(Dumplings), 'Hot Pot', etc... In other words,
though the food over here isn't super fantastic, but there's lots
of choices for you to choose, which is pretty satisfying. The
biggest weakness would be the size of our stomach isn't big enough
to outbeat all the different choices. Isn't it great if a human
being can have 2 interchangeable stomachs, then you would have
more than enough space to give all the different interesting food
options out there a good try?

注:そのレストランのサービスが良いと思います。
僕たちは十時ほど水を注文して、ウエーターさんが近くのコンビに
へ行って、水を買いました。それはほんまにいいサービスですね。
Note: I personally find the service of this restaurant to be pretty
good. When we were placing an order for a glasses of water after
10pm, the waiter actually went down and bought us bottles of water
for free, which is a pretty rare sight nowadays.

餃子屋 / Gyoza Ya

先日、偶然餃子を食べたいです。だから、早速にネットに様々な餃子屋を探して、やっと決まりました。そして、その店に出発に行きました。
I suddenly have the urge for 'Gyoza' the other day, therefore I started searching for good 'Gyoza' options in Singapore. I immediately set off for the place once I have decided on the restaurant.

'Jya Jya Noodles'(じゃじゃ麺)
外観と中華料理の「ジャージアンミエン」がだいたい同じと思います。
皿に平たいきしめんとキュウリと葱と肉味噌があります。
The appearance of this dish looks pretty similar to the Chinese
Noodles, 'Zha Jiang Mian'(炸醤麺). Within that small little bowl,
there's the flat and thick Japanese Noodles, 'Somen', 'Cucumber
Stripes', 'Spring Onions' and most importantly the meaty 'Miso
paste'.

その店に「じゃじゃ麺」のおいしい食べ方がよく説明しました。
英語の説明もありますよ。+。゚(・∀・)゚。+゚イイ!!ですね。
The restaurant has also prepared an illustration showing the steps
to enjoy a good bowl of 'Jya Jya Noodles'. And it's written in both
English and Japanese.

さあああ。。。Ψ(*・∀・*)Ψィタダキマシュ♪。
外観以外、味もだいたい同じです。シコシコ麺と肉味噌のコンビが美味しいです。
その上、キュウリの味がいいと思います。しかし、キュウリがちょっと薄くて、
カリカリの質感を無くしていました。残念ですね。
Besides for the appearance, the taste of the Noodles are pretty much
similar to the 'Zha Jiang Mian' too. As you mix the chewy Noodles
and the meaty paste together, the overall dish becomes pretty tasty.
On top of that, I loved the chill sensation of the stripes of
Cucumber. However, since the stripes of Cucumber are pretty thin,
therefore it has lost the crunchy touch, which is kinda disappointing.

これは説明によって、少々遊んだ(?)後の結果です。
これとこってりラーメンがだいたい同じです。
味と質感も凄いですね。でもね、本物に比べて、やはりラーメンがもって美味いです。
The would be the outcome, after spending a bit of time playing along
with the illustration. It's pretty much similar to a bowl of Japanese
Ramen that comes with a thick broth. Though the taste and the texture
of the Noodles remains to be pretty good, but frankly speaking, I
still prefer a bowl of Japanese Ramen much much more. :D

'Gyoza'(餃子)
その店の一番人気の料理です。
ここで色々な水餃子と焼き餃子もありますよ。
そして、時々は特別の餃子を作って、販売します。
例えば、先月蟹の餃子をロールアウトしました。
This would be the signatures of this restaurant. Besides for Boiled
Dumplings, they are preparing and selling Pan-Fried Dumplings over
here too. Best of all, from time to time, they would be releasing
limited editions 'Gyoza' too. For example, they have released Pan-
Fried Red King Crab Dumplings for the month of September. :D

'Yaki Azuki Gyoza'(焼き小豆餃子)
確かに餃子の形があり、味が甘いけれど、あまり美味しくないです。
理由は餃子一番大切のカリカリ質感を無くされていました。ヤダ(´;д;`)ヤダです。
Yes, indeed. These Red Bean Dumplings do comes in the shape of a
dumpling and it's pretty sweet but these dumplings ain't good
enough. This is mainly due to the fact that these Dumplings ain't
crunchy enough, which is a big disappointment. :(

'Pan Fried Dumpling with Pork'(焼き餃子(豚))
これと前の餃子に比べて、これが最高です。野菜と肉の比例といい、カリカリ質感
といい、味が素敵です。
As compared to the previous plate of Dumplings, this is amazingly
good. There's a nice balance in the use of the meaty ingredients
and the vegetables. On top of that, it has this crunchy sensation
which is a must have for 'Pan-Fried Dumplings'.

そこは「Robinsons Orchard」の地下1階です。
The name of this restaurant would be 'Gyoza Ya'.
It's located on basement 1 of 'Robinsons Orchard'.

神の火 / God Fire...

去年、博多へ行って来ました。あそこでとても辛い日本料理を食べていました。(わさびじゃないです。)その料理と今日のポストは関係があります。
While travelling around Japan last year, I finally managed to come across a spicy delicacy in Hakata, Japan. (And Wasabi isn't spicy.) And that delicacy has something to do with this post today.

「ゴッドファイアーラーメン」
そのラーメン屋は色々な博多ラーメンがありますよ。
でも、辛い料理が大好きなシンガポール人にとって、
一番人気のラーメンはそのとても辛いラーメンだった
かもしれません。
'God Fire Ramen'
They are preparing and selling a wide variety of 'Hakata Ramen'
over here. But, for the locals that love spicy food, the most
attractive and interesting 'Ramen' over here would most probably
be 'God Fire Ramen'.

そのラーメンの辛さがレベル4まで注文できます。
たぶん、辛さレベルの区別は「秘伝のたれ」の分量です。
辛さレベル4の「ゴッドファイアーラーメン」はほんとに
辛いですね。しかし、それより博多の「一蘭ラーメン」
の「秘伝のたれ10倍」のラーメンのほうが辛いですね。
刺激的な辛い味以外、博多ラーメンの特徴は細い麺
と豚骨のスープです。
(僕は細麺を使用のラーメンが大好きです。)
They are offering 4 different levels of spiciness for the
'God Fire Ramen'. Well, the biggest difference between the 4
levels would most likely be the portion of special paste added
into the bowl of 'Ramen'. Trust me, the highest(4th) level can
really set fire on your tongue. However, it's nothing as
compared to the special '10X Special Paste Ramen' from
'Ichiran Ramen' from 'Hakata', 'Japan'. Besides for the spicy
soup base, the thin and chewy noodles, the strong and thick
Pork Broth, are the characteristics of the 'Hakata Ramen'.
(In fact, I love with 'Ramen' that comes with the thin and
chewy noodles.)

さあ、シコシコ麺が最高です。
その上、スープの味が辛いし、豚骨の味が濃いです。
しかし、味付け卵のレベルが普通です。
チャーシューがちょっと薄いです。残念ですね。

実は全てを食べ終わった後、
顔に汗がいっぱいです。わははははは~~~~
Not only the Noodles are chewy, the taste are equally good
too. On top of that, the taste of the broth is pretty spicy
and the taste of the Pork Broth is pretty thick. However,
the standards of the flavoured egg is pretty normal and the
slices of barbecue pork ain't satisfying enough, which is a
big disappointment. By the way, my face was covered with sweat
after spending a bit of time finishing the whole bowl of
'God Fire Ramen'.

実は「一幸舎」は2年連続のシンガポール
の「ラーメンチャンピオン」のチャンピオンです。
だから、去年独立の「一幸舎」ラーメン屋で開業しました。
あそこは「Tanjong Pagar Plaza」の一階です。
注意よ、「Tanjong Pagar Plaza」の向かいは
「Orchid Hotel」です。
The name of this 'Ramen' restaurant would be 'Ikkousha'.
In fact, 'Ikkousha' was the overall champion of 'Ramen
Champion' for 2 consecutive years. Therefore that might be
the main reason why they have decided to have their own
outlet in Singapore. The 'Ramen' restaurant is currently
located on level 1 of 'Tanjong Pagar Plaza', which
is also located opposite 'Orchid Hotel'.
